William Birkin is a Legendary Outfit available to The Blight from CHAPTER 17: Descend Beyond.
William Birkin originates from the video game franchise Resident Evil, specifically the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2.
Overview
Dr. William Birkin is one of the main antagonists of Resident Evil 2 and its remake. He was a leading scientist on the T-Virus project at Umbrella Corporation and was married to fellow scientist Annette Birkin and had a daughter with her named Sherry. He was also a close friend and coworker of Albert Wesker.
During the events of the game, Birkin planned to defect to the US military in exchange for the Golgotha Virus and asylum for his family. However, moles within the military managed to out Birkin's treachery, and he was flanked by Umbrella Security Service soldiers led by HUNK. Birkin was fatally wounded after resisting arrest, and the USS team left with his virus samples. Instead of dying, Birkin injected himself with his last remaining G-virus sample, and mutated into a monster, tracking down the USS team and killing all except for HUNK. He consumed the remaining vials of the G-virus to ensure that it would not be stolen and inadvertently destroyed t-Virus samples in the process, which rats would later consume and spread into the city's water supply, thus making him responsible for the Raccoon City outbreak.
Birkin is encountered by the player multiple times in Resident Evil 2 as Leon Scott Kennedy or Claire Redfield as a boss fight, slowly mutating as the player progresses through the game.
Trivia
- William Birkin and The Blight have a similar theme of self-experimentation going wrong: much like The Blight, Birkin is not in control of himself, his personality superseded by the G-Virus mutation.
- Birkin is capable of speech in Dead by Daylight, albeit barely.
Just the same, he speaks short phrases and quick words like "Help me..." and "Sherry..." during his initial fight in Resident Evil 2. - William Birkin's introduction to Dead by Daylight marks the second time ever that he is a controllable Character, the first being in Resident Evil: Resistance.
- William Birkin shares his lobby theme with the Mastermind
and HUNK.
- When The Blight was added to 2v8, Birkin was disabled for the game mode, but was enabled when the third iteration that added The Nemesis and The Mastermind came.
Voice-Lines
- Playing as William Birkin replaces all of the usual sound effects The Blight would use otherwise and additionally adds unique voice-lines.
