Inserting the Cursed Tape into a random TV increases Condemned by +1 Stack. Inserting the Cursed Tape into the highlighted TV reduces Condemned by -3 Stacks. Patch 7.1.0

• Rework:
  • Buff: now increases Condemned when a Survivor is hit when carrying a Cursed Tape.
    • Nerf: Survivors carrying a Cursed Tape are, however, protected from gaining Condemned by other means.
  • Nerf: no longer requires inserting it into a specific one in order to lose Condemned, any TV will do.

Patch 7.5.0

• Rework:
  • Buff: no longer protects Survivors from gaining Condemned.
  • Buff: must now be inserted into a specific TV that is located farthest away from the Survivor's current location and can no longer be inserted into a random TV.
  • Buff: no longer destroyed when a Survivor is hit while carrying it.
    • Nerf: no longer inflicts Condemned, however, when a Survivor is hit while carrying it.

Trivia

• Prior to Patch 7.0.0, the VHS Tape was the only Limited Item that did not take up the Survivor's Item slot, and was stored in a separate one instead, alongside any existing Items, which allowed Survivors to still carry their primary Item, if available.
  • This also made it that the VHS Tape remained unaffected by any Perks that interact with or affect a Survivor's Item, such as Franklin's Demise or Hoarder.
