The Void
The Void is one of 8 known sub-realms to the Realm of The Entity Dead by Daylight takes place in.
Overview
The Void is on a different plane of existence to the main Realms of the Trials, but merges with them during the Haunted by Daylight Halloween Events.
Lore
Originally, not much was known about it, other than it was a place for lost souls, a limbo for broken Survivors who had lost their last bits of hope, becoming nothing more but hollow shells that could no longer nourish The Entity in the Trials.
Its Lore is continuously expanded throughout the years, usually during the Halloween Events and The Archives.
The Alchemist
The story of the mystical Alchemist (later revealed to have been Talbot Grimes) in Tome 1 - Awakening brought with it the first new information about The Void, suggesting that using the power of the Putrid Serum, harvested from Visceral Cankers during Blights, it is possible to escape the limbo and return to the main Realms.
So far, only two Characters are known to have done that, both known for their ability to bend the rules of the Realms to their will: The Blight and Vigo.
Haunted by Daylight
The first iteration of the Haunted by Daylight Halloween Event series made The Void a bit more tangible during the regular Trials, spawning Esoteric Generators and Esoteric Hooks that provided Players with Void Energy that could be transferred into Unstable Rifts, as well as a huge Sky Rift once the Trial concluded.
The Void itself, however, remained inaccessible still.
The second iteration marked the first time Players received access to a small part of The Void during Trials.
Like the previous year, Players could transfer Void Energy into Unstable Rifts to stabilise them, which would eventually cause them to transform into Portals that would remain open for 120 seconds at a time, before resetting into Unstable Rifts.
Interacting with the Portals would teleport the Player into The Void.
Once the timer elapsed, they would automatically be teleported back into the main Trial Grounds.
The third iteration stabilised The Void even more, making it permanently accessible through a single Portal, with Players able to stabilise Unstable Rifts into additional, temporary Portals.
Since Players could now remain in The Void without a time limit, the Killer is informed of a Survivor's presence in it, allowing them to shoo them out.
Haunts
The Void is home to the Haunts, mysterious wisp-like constructs of The Entity.
During the second iteration of Haunted by Daylight, several Haunts could be encountered in The Void.
When approached by one or multiple Players, the Haunt would begin siphoning their Void Energy.
If a Haunt could leech enough Void Energy, it would award the Player with a few bonus effects for 30 seconds that could be carried over into the regular Trial Grounds and also be itself released into a random location in the environment, where they would stay and wait.
Depending on who released a given Haunt, Players of the same side would see its Aura and could either approach it for another bonus effect or lure the other side into it for a jump-scare that applied a debuff on them.
During the third iteration, Haunts no longer populated The Void.
Void Well
The Void Well is a prop located at the top of a tall structure located in the centre of The Void during the third iteration of Haunted by Daylight.
Players can use it to deposit their Void Energy.
Depositing a total of 50 grants a Survivor a special Item, the and the Killer a special ability.
Void Crystal
Survivors receive the Void Crystal Limited Item.
Pressing the Use Item button drops the Crystal, causing it to explode in a thick cloud of smoke that turns the Survivor invisible and hides their Scratch Marks while obscuring the Killer's vision.
Captured Haunts
Killers receive access to the Captured Haunts Special Ability, which has 2 Charges.
Pressing the Event Ability button launches a Captured Haunt, which shoots ahead of the Killer like a projectile and damages a Survivor in its path.
If it does not hit a Survivor before it reaches the end of its path, it causes any nearby Survivor to scream and trigger a Loud Noise Notification.
Trivia
- The existence of this sub-realm was first revealed in a Lore Panel during the 111th Developer Stream.
- The accessible part of The Void that becomes available during the Haunted by Daylight Halloween Events is actually located way above the actual Map, likely hidden behind the massive Sky Rift.
