, and Terminus
, allow him to vault faster, see other Survivors' Auras while carrying one, and cause Survivors to be permanently Broken when the Exit Gates are powered.

Lore
Albert Wesker was a high-ranking official in the Umbrella Corporation. While he made great strides with Umbrella, his ambition drove him to betray the corporation. Believing himself the best test subject, he exposed himself to the Prototype virus. Now with superhuman strength, Wesker faked his death and went underground with a new plan: expose the world to Uroboros, a biological weapon that would eliminate the weak and leave only the strong.
Wesker began to put his plan to action in Africa but was confronted by members of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance at a hangar stocked with missiles carrying Uroboros. Determined to be at the vanguard of evolution, he once again made himself a test subject. Exposing himself to Uroboros, he began to evolve in ways he could have never imagined. But as he felt his cells change, a strange black fog seeped into the hangar and filled his vision. When the fog finally dissipated, he found himself in another world surrounded by lesser beings that deserved to be put out of their misery.

Weapon: Combat Knife
The Combat Knife is the Primary Weapon of The Mastermind.
A vicious blade with a serrated edge to aid in tearing up his opponents.
Power: Virulent Bound
"The Mastermind can barrel forwards, infecting Survivors with the Uroboros Virus or leaping over obstacles."
SPECIAL ABILITY: VIRULENT BOUND
The Mastermind starts the Trial with 2 Tokens.
SPECIAL ATTACK: BOUND ATTACK
Press and hold the Power button to charge Virulent Bound, reducing his Movement speed to 3.68 m/s while he prepares to strike.
Press the Attack button to initiate a Bound Attack, consuming -1 Token, or release the Power button to cancel it.
Press the Attack button again during the Chain Bound Window of 2 seconds to initiate a second, longer Bound Attack, if there is still a Token available:
- Increases his Movement speed to 14 m/s during a Bound Attack.
- The first Bound lasts for 0.5 seconds.
- The second Bound lasts for 1 second.
SPECIAL INTERACTION: SURVIVOR COLLISION
Colliding with a Survivor at any point during a Bound Attack has multiple possible effects and interactions, which depend on the Survivor's current states regarding their health, infection, and interaction:
- If the Survivor is interacting with a Prop or another Survivor, or is protected from entering the Dying State
by a third-party effect, The Mastermind attacks them with a quick swipe of his tentacles:
- Uninfected Survivors become infected with Uroboros and receive damage.
- Infected Survivors receive damage.
- Critically Infected Survivors receive double damage and are downed, unless they are protected.
- If the Survivor is not interacting with a Prop or another Survivor, The Mastermind grabs them with his tentacles and continues travelling the remaining distance of his Bound Attack.
- If he collides with an obstacle before ending the Bound Attack, either of the following applies:
- Uninfected Survivors become infected with Uroboros and receive damage.
- Infected Survivors receive damage, after which injured Survivors are released and dying Survivors are hoisted onto his shoulder.
- Critically Infected Survivors receive double damage and are hoisted onto his shoulder.
- If he does not collide with an obstacle before ending the Bound Attack, he throws the Survivor in a straight line, after which either of the following applies:
- Uninfected Survivors become infected with Uroboros and receive damage, if they collide with an obstacle during the throw, after which they are released.
- Infected Survivors receive damage, if they collide with an obstacle during the throw, after which injured Survivors are released and dying Survivors are downed.
- Critically Infected Survivors receive double damage, if they collide with an obstacle during the throw, after which they are downed.
- If he collides with an obstacle before ending the Bound Attack, either of the following applies:
- In any case, the Exit Gates
are blocked to the Survivor for the duration of the Bound Attack.
- This effect lingers for 5 seconds after they are released.
SPECIAL INTERACTION: VIRULENT VAULT
Colliding with a dropped Pallet or a Window
during a Bound Attack causes The Mastermind to automatically vault over it.
SPECIAL AFFLICTION: UROBOROS INFECTION
Uroboros grows in strength over time, which is indicated with an Infection Meter on the Survivor Portraits in the HUD:
- Both Uninfected Survivors and Infected Survivors gain +20 Charges upon colliding with The Mastermind during a Bound Attack.
- Infected Survivors passively gain +0.8 c/s at all times, unless they are hooked or downed.
Being hooked resets the Infection Meter to 1 Charge.
Once the Infection Meter is full at 100 Charges, Infected Survivors become Critically Infected:
- Causes them to suffer from a permanent -4 % Hindered Status Effect.
SPECIAL ITEM: FIRST AID SPRAY
Survivors can cure themselves or other Survivors from Uroboros by locating a Supply Case and searching it for a First Aid Spray
:
- A total of 6 Supply Cases spawn in random locations in the environment.
- The Auras of Supply Cases are revealed to Infected Survivors at all times.
- Each Supply Case contains 1 First Aid Spray with 2 uses.
- Using the First Aid Spray triggers Killer Instinct for 4 seconds.

DLC
The Mastermind is part of '1 DLC:
Change Log
Patch 6.2.1
- Buff: increased the Survivor-Collision detection during a Bound Attack from 20 centimetres to 30 centimetres.
- This change was motivated by negative Community Feedback towards the Developers having reduced the size for the release of 6.2.0 from originally 40 centimetres on the 6.2.0 PTB.
The size of the Collision Box for environmental objects, however, remained the same after a reduction from originally 45 centimetres on the 6.2.0 PTB, which benefits The Mastermind.
- This change was motivated by negative Community Feedback towards the Developers having reduced the size for the release of 6.2.0 from originally 40 centimetres on the 6.2.0 PTB.
Patch 7.0.1
- Undocumented Quality of Life: added collision to The Mastermind after he has completely vaulted a Pallet.
- This change was motivated by his lack of collision at the end of the vaulting animation, allowing Survivors to clip through him enough to vault the Pallet while he is locked in the animation unable to do anything.
Patch 7.1.2
- Undocumented Quality of Life: updated and improved the hit validation when performing Virulent Bound on Survivors performing rushed actions or unhooking Survivors.
- This change was motivated by inconsistencies with The Mastermind being able to grab Survivors with Virulent Bound from various actions that he was not intended to do.
Patch 8.0.0
- Nerf: reduced the Movement Speed penalty experienced by Critically Infected Survivors from -8 % to -4 %.
- Nerf: reduced the maximum Infection Progression a Survivor can have when hooked from 50 % to 1 %.
Patch 8.4.0
- Buff: reduced the Power Recovery time from 6 seconds to 5.5 seconds.
Trivia
- The Mastermind is one of the most normal-looking Killers in Dead by Daylight, with no initially visible physical alterations to him other than his glowing eyes, which he hides behind his sunglasses most of the time.
- The Mastermind was the first Killer with a Power that allows him to immediately grab Survivors that is separate from a basic grab.
- The Mastermind was the first Killer with the ability to throw Survivors as a means of damaging them.
- Up until Patch 8.6.0, The Mastermind was the only killer with a Terror Radius of 40 metres.
- The Mastermind was the first Killer to be referred to by his real name in the Killer Selection Menu rather than by a descriptive type or his Killer alias.
- The Mastermind and The Nemesis are the first and currently only licensed killers to be added in the 2v8 game mode.
Animations & Model
- The Mastermind's running animation is a reference to Wesker's running dash attack from Resident Evil 5.
- The way The Mastermind swings his knife is a reference to the way the characters swing their knife in Resident Evil games.
- The Mastermind's default knife is the knife he uses when he is playable in the mercenaries mode of Resident Evil 5.
- The Mastermind's Mori is a reference to both the first confrontation between Chris Redfield and himself in Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, and Excella Gionne's death in Resident Evil 5.
- When stunned, The Mastermind's glasses may fall off, resulting in him pulling out another pair from his coat.
- The Mastermind's pose in his bio is a reference to one of his artwork from Teppen', which also originated from The Mastermind's render from Resident Evil 5.
- The same pose from Teppen appears in one of The Mastermind's menu animations.
Skins
- All of Wesker's skins with the exception of Blighted outfit is based off his appearances through the franchise
- The Albert Wesker (S.T.A.R.S) is based off his design from Resident Evil (2002) .
- This skin shares the same knife as HUNK with The Mastermind's being more dirtier and bloodier.
- New Dawn is based off his design from Resident Evil 4 (2023).
- This skin's description references the events of Resident Evil 4 (2023) and its DLC Separate Ways, with Ada Wong betraying him, by taking the dominant Plaga parasite contained within the Amber away from him.
- The knife wielded in this skin belongs to Jack Krauser.
Lore
- Wesker was taken by the The Entity during the final level of Resident Evil 5.
- According to his Blighted Wesker Cosmetic, The Mastermind is the only Killer to inject the Blight Serum into himself, as opposed to The Blight administering them.
Voice Actor
- Despite some initial beliefs and theories pointing to Albert Wesker's original voice actor from ten Resident Evil games, D.C. Douglas, reprising his role for Dead by Daylight, he himself confirmed that someone else stepped into his shoes for Dead by Daylight, and wished the new voice actor best of luck taking on the role of Albert Wesker.
- It was ultimately revealed that actor and voice actor Connor Fogarty had taken on the role of voicing Albert Wesker for Dead by Daylight in collaboration with The Monster Factory Inc.
Voice-Lines
- The Mastermind was the third Killer in the Game to actively speak in Trials.
- All of his voice lines originate from Resident Evil 5.
- Keeping with their infamous rivalry, The Mastermind has special voice lines when interacting with Chris Redfield.
