Lisa Sherwood — The Hag
![]() |
A new terror stalks the darkness; her appearance strikes me as more intense than the others after but a glimpse of her haggard silhouette. Twisted and torn in unspeakable ways, with greyish dead skin stretched out over her emaciated body. Her arm is a horrid overgrown deformity capable of slashing through both flesh and bone alike. Her very presence speaks of endless torture similar to mine. I wonder - did she refuse the entity's calling until broken or did she wish for this? | ![]() |

Lisa Sherwood or "The Hag" is one of 39 Killers currently featured in Dead by Daylight
.
She was introduced as the Killer of CHAPTER 3: Of Flesh and Mud, a Chapter DLC released on 8 December 2016 and retired on 8 January 2024.
She is still available in the In-Game Store and as part of the Maddening Darkness Pack Chapter Pack DLC.
Overview
The Hag is a cursed Killer, able to place Phantasm Traps and then teleport to them upon activation, using her Power.
Her personal Perks, Hex: The Third Seal, Hex: Ruin
, and Hex: Devour Hope
, apply crippling penalties to Survivors as long as the associated Totem remains uncleansed.
Her Perks revolve around Hex Totems. They are focused on cursing the Survivors and sapping their abilities. The curse lasts until the Survivors manage to track the Hex Totem down and cleanse it.
Difficulty Rating: Very Hard
(These Killers require a high amount of practice and understanding, inexperienced Players are likely to find little success when using them)
Lore
- Additional Lore can be found in Tome 4 - Conviction: Stroke of Luck.
Lisa Sherwood grew up in a quiet village, mainly isolated from the rest of civilisation. The people of the hamlet were kind and the elders kept old traditions alive, often keeping the peace by personally settling the ever-rare disputes. Lisa was particularly fond of the charms they taught her to draw for safety and good fortune. One night, as she was walking home through the woods, a terrible storm struck without warning. Howling winds whipped at her hair as she stumbled through the swamp, her rain-drenched dress plastered to her skin. In the slick, wet mud she lost her footing, careening backwards and striking her head against rock. Slipping in and out of consciousness, she strained to identify the dark shapes approaching her from between the trees. That's the last thing she could remember.
Her kidnappers kept her chained to the wall in a flooded cellar. Though dimly lit, she could see others whose large open wounds swarmed with flies. It took merely a day before they returned, carving chunks from the prisoners' bodies with rusted blades, consuming their very flesh down to the bone. Most she saw did not survive long once the cannibals targeted them but somehow, deep within, Lisa persisted. Starved, infected, and mutilated after several weeks of torture, her gaunt arms became loose in their shackles. She pulled hard, the metal tearing through skin and muscle until she was free. Her flesh oozed viscous yellow pus and bones were visible beneath gangrenous wounds. She could go no further. Delirious, she thought of home; she thought of the elders. With her dying breath, she etched the symbols they had taught her into the floor using what remained of her fingers. Almost in response, a dark hunger stirred inside her. It yearned for blood. In oath, she chose vengeance.
The village's search party eventually brought them to an old shack in a swamp. Inside, its previous inhabitants had been viciously dismembered and devoured by an unidentifiable animal. In the cellar, amid rotting corpses and disconnected flesh, the elders’ charms were scrawled in blood on the floor. Lisa’s body was not among the bodies and was never found. The village was never the same again.

Unique Perks
The Hag comes with 3 Perks that are unique to her:
Hex: Devour Hope | A Hex rooting its power on hope. The false hope of Survivors ignites your hunger. Whenever a Survivor is rescued from a Hook
![]() ![]() ![]() "If you do nothing, you have their blood on your hands. If you save them, her hunger grows." | |
---|---|---|
Hex: Ruin | A Hex that affects the Generator Repair progress of all Survivors.
All effects of the Hex Perk persist until its Hex Totem "A curse is upon you. It will cause your ruin." | |
Hex: The Third Seal | A Hex that hinders the Survivors' Aura-reading abilities.
The last 2/3/4 Survivors you hit with a Basic or Special Attack suffer permanently from the Blindness "She touched your skin, you bear the witch's mark!" |
Prestige
Prestiging The Hag will automatically add Tier I of her Unique Perks to the inventories of all other Killers and unlock the ability for their higher-tiered versions to spawn in their Bloodweb.
Prestige The Hag twice more to automatically add Tier II and Tier III respectively into the other Killers' inventories.
Weapon: The Claw
The Claw is the Primary Weapon of The Hag.
A horridly overgrown deformity, clawing its way through flesh and bone.
Power: Blackened Catalyst
"The source of The Hag's power: a blackened finger used as a catalyst for her terrible power.
She bends and shapes mud to her will.
With simple ritualistic drawings, she creates deceitful duplicates of herself, made from mud and decay, which she can use for various effects."
SPECIAL ABILITY: BLACKENED CATALYST
The Hag starts the Trial with 10 Phantasm Traps in her inventory.
Placing additional Phantasm Traps will recycle the oldest one.
SPECIAL TRAP: PHANTASM TRAP
Press the Power button to bend down and draw a muddy sign into the ground, placing and arming a Phantasm Trap.
Survivors entering the Area of Effect, which is only visible to The Hag, will trip the trap, causing a Mud Phantasm to spawn that has the following effects:
- Yanks the camera of the Survivor who tripped the trap towards itself, disorienting them and keeps its sight trained on them.
- Emits a Fake Terror Radius
of 8 metres.
Survivors can prevent tripping the trap by doing either of the following:
- Crouch while inside the Area of Effect.
- Interact with Props while inside the Area of Effect.
Survivors can safely remove a trap by wiping it away for 4 seconds when crouching above it.
SPECIAL LOCOMOTION: TELEPORT
Press the Secondary Power button to teleport to any currently tripped Phantasm Trap within 48 metres, taking the place of the Mud Phantasm.
In case of multiple tripped traps, a specific Mud Phantasm can be chosen by aiming at it before teleporting.

Alternate Character Models
The Hag has 1 alternate Character model available in the in-game Store:
- The Birch (Costume)
DLC
The Hag is part of 3 DLCs:
- Chapter DLC:
- CHAPTER 3: Of Flesh and Mud (retired)
- Pack DLCs:
- Maddening Darkness Pack (Chapter Pack)
- Terror Expansion Pack (Character Pack)
History
Light Vulnerability
Up to Patch 6.7.0, The Hag's Phantasm Traps were vulnerable to bright lights:
- Shining Flashlights
near Phantasm Traps would reveal their Aura
to the Survivor.
- Shining Flashlights
directly at Phantasm Traps or detonating Firecrackers
or Flash Grenades
near them would destroy them.
- Destroying a Phantasm Trap notified The Hag with a Loud Noise Notification.
Change Log
Patch 1.5.0
- Buff: reduced Phantasm Trap Setting phases 1 and 3 from 2 seconds each to 1 second each.
- Nerf: Phantasm Traps no longer trigger when Survivors crouch in their trigger area.
Patch 1.9.3
- Buff: reduced the Terror Radius
to 24 metres from originally 28 metres.
Patch 2.0.0
- QoL: fixed an issue that caused The Hag to vault more slowly than other Killers.
Patch 2.1.0
- Buff: reduced Phantasm Trap Setting phases 1 and 3 from 1 second each to 0.5 seconds each.
- Buff: reduced Phantasm Trap Setting phase 2 from 2 seconds to 1 second.
- Buff: increased the Phantasm Trap teleport range to 40 metres from originally 32 metres.
- QoL: revisited all Add-ons.
Patch 2.2.0
- QoL: standardised the Lunge mechanic so that 4.4 m/s Killers now lunge at the same speed as 4.6 m/s Killers.
Patch 2.3.0
- QoL: reduced the footstep audio.
Patch 6.3.0
- Change: The Hag now features a unique Menu Music, Terror Radius
and Chase Music.
Patch 6.7.0
- Buff: removed the ability of Flashlights
to burn Phantasm Traps.
- Nerf: added an interaction for Survivors to manually wipe them away instead.
Patch 7.6.0
- Buff: increased the Teleportation distance from 40 metres to 48 metres.
- Buff: reduced the Trap Setting time (Phase 2) from 1 second to 0.9 seconds.
- Buff: increased the Trigger duration from 5 seconds to 6 seconds.
- Buff: increased Wipe-away duration from 3.5 seconds to 4 seconds.
- Buff: reduced the Trigger range from 3 metres to 2.7 metres.
- This change was motivated by an increased range (especially when using certain Add-ons) being counter-productive, as it would place a teleported Hag further away from fleeing Survivors.
Trivia
- The Hag was the second female Killer.
- The Hag's voice sounds like high pitched distorted gurgling.
- The Hag was the first Killer whose Memento Mori animation takes place in third person rather than from her own perspective.
- She also has the longest Memento Mori at 16 seconds.
- The Hag was the first Killer to not attack with an actual weapon, but instead using her massive claw.
- The Hag was the first Killer whose Perks were destructible by being bound to Totems
.
- The Hag was the second Killer to place traps.
- The Hag was the second Killer with the ability to teleport.
- The Hag is one of few Killers to break Pallets
and damage Generators
with their hand.
- The Hag is one of few Killers to have a unique Hatch-closing animation.
- Unlike most other Killers at the time, The Hag did not step through Windows
, but rather jumped through them, a mechanic now shared by most Killers of average height.
- The Hag's Phantasms always wear the same customisation option as The Hag herself.
- The Hag was leaked a couple of weeks prior to her release due to the new Daily Rituals
already having been assigned to some players.
- The Hag seems to be heavily based on the Wendigo, an Algonquian myth that says those who commit cannibalism will become possessed by spirits, deformed and eventually turn insane.
This is suggested by The Hag's appearance, Memento Mori, backstory, and a few Hag-related Unlockables in the game which talk about cannibalism.
Development Trivia
- During early stages of developing her Power, the Developers gave it a temporary name, as well as a funny description: Phantom Trap - Scare the dude. Teleport to the thing.
Name Trivia
- The English name Lisa, a shortened version of Elizabeth, means "God's oath; God's promise" or "consecrated to God."
- Sherwood is of Old English origin and means "from the bright forest" or "bright forest"; in Celtic, it means "wild."
- Sherwood is also the name of the forest in which the legendary outlaw Robin Hood made his home.
Cosmetic Trivia
- The Hag's Very Rare Outfit, "The Birch", is a character from the Crypt TV short-film of the same name.
- "The Birch" is a vengeful protector living in a forest, protecting people with love in their hearts from those who threaten their safety upon being summoned.
