Charles Lee Ray or "The Good Guy", also known as "Chucky", is one of 39 Killers currently featured in Dead by Daylight
.
He was introduced as the Killer of CHAPTER 30: Chucky, a Chapter DLC released on 28 November 2023.
He originates from the 1990 Supernatural Slasher film Child's Play 2, the second instalment of the Child's Play franchise.
Overview
The Good Guy is an elusive Killer, capable of deceiving Survivors with his illusory Footfalls and deadly Slice & Dice.
His personal Perks, Hex: Two Can Play, Friends 'til the End
, and Batteries Included
, allow him to blind those who blind him, relentlessly hunt his Obsession, and get faster around completed Generators.
Difficulty Rating: Moderate
(These Killers require the Player to be comfortable with the basics of the role, though they share common mechanics with easier ones)
Lore
Charles Lee Ray, the infamous Lakeshore Strangler, was tracked down and shot after a murderous rampage. However, he escaped death by having his soul possess a Good Guys doll named Chucky through a curse.
Chucky didn't want to stay a Good Guy forever, though, and he knew there was only one way to change that: take the body of Andy Barclay, the first person he had revealed his secret to. After his first attempt failed, Chucky waited two long years before he found Andy again.
With nobody standing between Chucky and Andy, he took the boy to the Good Guy factory to complete the process of stealing Andy’s body. But Andy’s foster sister, Kyle, realised something was amiss, and followed Andy to the factory.
Inside the factory Chucky forced Andy to the ground and spoke ancient words to take possession of his body. But the ritual didn’t go as planned and Kyle quickly and desperately toppled a stack of Good Guy boxes over him.
Chucky screamed his frustration as he pushed through the pile of boxes. Gathering his wits, he looked down the brightly lit aisle and saw Andy running into a thick, swirling mass of fog. He thought he was seeing things at first, but then he realised the Fog was real and there to help him. His words hadn’t worked as intended but he had somehow conjured something else, something unexpected, something he didn’t quite understand.
And not wanting to lose his only chance for a real body, he charged through the Fog screaming after Andy.

Trivia
- Chucky is the first Killer to have a fixed third person camera, due to being so short.
- However, due to the way the camera is positioned and how it turns with Chucky, it feels no different to playing the other short Killers.
- Chucky is carried by the ghostly apparition of Charles Lee Ray in the Lobby.
- It is also Charles who carries around dying Survivors, during which he will also carry Chucky on his other arm.
- During the carrying animation, if The Killer decides to move their camera, both Charles' and Chucky's heads will move along.
- It is also Charles who carries around dying Survivors, during which he will also carry Chucky on his other arm.
- Chucky occasionally flicks the bird during the Tally Screen.
- He is the second Killer, after The Legion, to receive an Ugly Sweater cosmetic.
Lore
- Chucky was taken by The Entity during the events of Child's Play 2.
- Charles appears to be wearing the same pinstriped suit he died in shortly after transferring his soul into the Good Guy Doll in the opening scene of Child's Play.
Mori
- Chucky's Mori references three scenes from the first two Child's Play movies:
- The hammer references how he killed Andy's aunt, throwing a hammer at her, which caused her to stumble backwards and falling out of a window.
- The baseball bat references how he attacked the injured Detective towards the end of the first movie.
- The yardstick references how he killed Andy's school teacher in the second movie.
Voice Actors
- Chucky is voiced by Brad Dourif.
Dourif is the original actor who portrayed Charles Lee Ray and voiced the Chucky doll in the Child's Play movies. - When playing as Tiffany, she has her own voice lines and is voiced by Jennifer Tilly.
Tilly is the original actress who portrayed Tiffany Valentine and voiced the Tiffany doll in the later Child's Play movies.
Voice Lines
- Chucky was the fifth Killer to actively speak during Trials.
- Chucky is aware of and recognises both Nicolas Cage
and Ash Williams
, and will have unique voice lines for when either Character is present in the Lobby.
- Voice Line Menu C5 05, which is one of those that plays when those Characters are present, makes a size joke.
Voice Line References
- Voice Line Menu C1 08 is a reference to one of the few pre-programmed sentences the Good Guy dolls can say.
- After possessing the doll, Charles Lee Ray changes the doll's name to his own nickname, but otherwise adopts the phrase verbatim and in the same voice in order to hide his true identity from the adults around Andy.
