The Dream World
The Dream World is one of 8 known sub-realms to the Entity's Realm in which Dead by Daylight takes place.
Overview
The Dream World is used exclusively by The Nightmare, no other Killers have access to it.
The Dream World is on a different plane of existence to The Entity's Realm, marked by thick clouds of fog, a sky streaked with black and white, and everything being drained of colour.
The general aesthetics are akin to black-and-white film, with only some toned-down colours remaining.
Entering the Dream World
The Nightmare's mere presence in a Trial slowly lulls Survivors to sleep (Microsleep) indicated by a timer overlaid on their HUD icon.
After the timer elapses, Survivors are fully asleep, indicated by a cloud-overlay on their icon, and enter the Dream World.
Awake Survivors are immediately pulled into the Dream World when The Nightmare hits them with a Basic Attack.
Survivors may also start the Trial in the Dream World already, if The Nightmare equips the Red Paint Brush Add-on.
Dream World Effects
Unlike to awake Survivors, The Nightmare is always visible to sleeping Survivors, who are in the Dream World.
The Dream World replaces The Nightmare's Terror Radius with a Lullaby and causes Survivors to suffer permanently from the Oblivious
Status Effect.
Survivors in the Dream World are also susceptible to Dream Traps, such as the Dream Snares or the Dream Pallets, able to both perceive them and be affected by them.
The Dream World adds a noticeable amount of reverberation to most sounds, including those made by The Nightmare himself and the Survivors, making most noises produce echoes.
Leaving the Dream World
To escape the Dream World, Survivors must wake up from their sleep, which can be done the following ways:
- Have another Survivor perform the Wake Up action on you
- Be hooked by The Nightmare
- Fail a Repair or Healing Skill Check
- Wake yourself up using the Alarm Clock

Sleep-Immunity
Once a Survivor wakes up, they return to the Overworld and their sleep timer is reset.
If they woke up using an Alarm Clock, they temporarily gain immunity, before they once again enter Microsleep.
This immunity also extends to Basic Attacks from The Nightmare.
Change Log
Patch 8.5.0
- Quality of Life: minor visual improvements.
- One of these improvements is that the film grain effect that could be seen in the sky was removed, in response to the feedback that it was uncomfortable to look at.
