Description

Stranger Things is a brand-new Chapter for Dead by Daylight, which includes a new Map. Purchasing the Stranger Things DLC will unlock its new Killer and two new Survivors.

It was the early 1980s, a time of cold war experiments and naïve fascination, a time of stranger things. In the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, covert experiments were being conducted.

When an inter-dimensional gate was accidentally opened at the Hawkins National Laboratory, an army of creatures with long, curved claws and gaping faces that bloom like horrific flowers was unleashed. These creatures were labelled "Demogorgons" by a group of local kids who encountered them.

Nancy Wheeler's knack for investigative journalism first emerged when she brought down a secret government organisation in Hawkins following the disappearance of her closest friend, Barb. Her being fired from the Hawkins Post during the summer of 1985 has not dissuaded Nancy from chasing leads...

Formerly a popular jock, Steve Harrington, is struggling to find his place in Hawkins now that high school is over, and his old friends moved away to college. Since then, he's spent his time scooping ice cream at the mall, flirting with girls, and cracking secret Russian codes. With the help of his friends Dustin and Robin, Steve is carving out a new identity for himself and learning what true friendship really means. It's this newfound loyalty to his friends that compels Steve to come to the aid of his ex-girlfriend, Nancy when he suspects she might be in terrible danger...

The Demogorgon's Info

K17 charSelect portrait.png

The Demogorgon

A blooming mouth full of needle-like teeth for a face, large, curved, razor-sharp claws, and powerful legs to pounce on victims, make The Demogorgon a frightening monster to face in any dimension. It is a nightmare of unrestrained, feral rage as it hunts down its prey and rips it to pieces, devouring every last morsel of flesh and gore, leaving nothing for scavengers. The creature is untouched by any sense of compassion or restraint. Looming over its victim, it shows no doubt or mercy, just the pure instinct of its insatiable blood lust as it delivers the deathblow. A perfect hunter, The Demogorgon is a macabre testament to the horrors lurking in the Upside Down and why it was choice pickings for The Entity.

The Demogorgon's Power

"An unknown and otherworldly power surged through its body.
Suddenly the ground ripped open, swallowing The Demogorgon whole."

SPECIAL ABILITY: OF THE ABYSS
Press and hold the Power button to channel Of the Abyss:

  • Triggers Killer Instinct on Survivors inside the Area of Effect of Active Portals.
  • Unlocks the ability to perform a Shred Attack.

SPECIAL ATTACK: SHREDAtl Hud PB Shred.png
Press the Attack button after charging Of the Abyss to at least 65 % to dash forwards and unleash a vicious slash:

  • Causes The Demogorgon to lunge forwards at 18.4 m/s.

Press and hold the Secondary Power button to bend down and create an Inactive Portal in the ground:

  • Inactive Portals are invisible to Survivors and cannot be sealed.
  • Inactive Portals do not have an Area of Effect and thus do not trigger Killer Instinct.

When The Demogorgon interacts with Inactive Portals to traverse the Upside Down, both the Portal he travels from and the one he travels to are transformed into Active Portals:

  • Active Portals are visible to Survivors and can be sealed.
  • Active Portals have an Area of Effect of 4 metres around them.
    • Survivors inside the Area of Effect suffer permanently from the ObliviousIconStatusEffects oblivious.pngIconStatusEffects oblivious.pngIconStatusEffects oblivious.png Status Effect and are revealed by Killer Instinct while The Demogorgon is channelling Of the Abyss.

SPECIAL INTERACTION: SEALING PORTALS
Survivors can interact with Active Portals to seal them, either alone or together with other Survivors, though at increasingly reduced efficiency:

  • 1 Survivor seals a Portal in 12 seconds.
  • 2 Survivors seal a Portal in ~9 seconds.
  • 3 Survivors seal a Portal in 8 seconds.
  • 4 Survivors seal a Portal in 6 seconds.

Sealing a Portal will recycle it into the inventory of The Demogorgon.

SPECIAL LOCOMOTION: TRAVERSING THE UPSIDE DOWNAtl Hud PB traverseUpsideDown.png
Press and hold the Secondary Power button while standing atop any Portal and aiming at any Highlighted Portal to enter the first Portal and traverse the Upside Down, appearing at the second Portal:

Survivor: Steve Harrington

Steve's Info

S19 charSelect portrait.png

The Former Jock

Popular and arrogant, yet compassionate, Steve Harrington is an unlikely mentor and leader. He often acts as a surrogate big brother to a younger boy named Dustin. He even helped him find his slimy inter-dimensional pet Demogorgon, D'Artagnan. His reputation as a protector grew and he soon became a sort of "babysitter" for a group of kids in Hawkins with a knack for messing around with strange and dangerous things. His courage is unmatched so that he was even able to fend off a Demogorgon when it threatened his friends. One evening he received a call for assistance from his friend Nancy Wheeler. He drove all the way to the Hawkins National Laboratory to see if she was okay. He searched the area but only found her notebook. Before he realised what was happening the ground opened up and a swirl of black mist filled his eyes. When he awakened he was in a strange place that seemed familiar but unfamiliar at the same time.

Steve's Perks

IconPerks secondWind.png
Second Wind "You have learnt to avoid awkward situations with parents.
Part of you still thinks your best option is to run away and hope things will take care of themselves."

Chapter Retraction (2021-2023)

On 16 August 2021, one month short of two years after the Chapter was introduced to Dead by Daylight, the Developers had announced on their website that the Chapter would be leaving the Game three months later by 17 November 2021.

After that date, none of the Stranger Things content could be purchased anymore on any platform and there would be no new content made for the Chapter.
Any previously purchased content remained in the Game and usable, with Players continuing to be able to play with and against the Stranger Things characters in the Trials.

On 6 November 2023, almost two years after the Chapter left, it was announced that all of the content would return to the Game in full and the Map would become playable again.
This also reverted the Chapter's Perks back to being Character-exclusive.

Trivia

  • This Chapter marked the first Chapter to feature two Survivors instead of just one.
  • This Chapter marked the first Chapter to leave Dead by Daylight in any form.
  • This Chapter was first teased after the official Netflix Twitter account posted a tweet during E3 2019 which told players to "watch out" for upcoming projects with different companies. Behaviour, the developers behind Dead By Daylight, was one of them. Link
