Lore
Popular and arrogant, yet compassionate, Steve Harrington is an unlikely mentor and leader. He often acts as a surrogate big brother to a younger boy named Dustin. He even helped him find his slimy inter-dimensional pet Demogorgon, D'Artagnan. His reputation as a protector grew and he soon became a sort of "babysitter" for a group of kids in Hawkins with a knack for messing around with strange and dangerous things. His courage is unmatched so that he was even able to fend off a Demogorgon when it threatened his friends. One evening he received a call for assistance from his friend Nancy Wheeler. He drove all the way to the Hawkins National Laboratory to see if she was okay. He searched the area but only found her notebook. Before he realised what was happening the ground opened up and a swirl of black mist filled his eyes. When he awakened he was in a strange place that seemed familiar but unfamiliar at the same time.

Change Log
Patch 9.4.0
- Change: Replaced voice over and provided Steve with unique voice-lines.
- One of the original scared screams, known as "Steagull", remains as an easter egg.
- Change: added Lobby Music for Steve, sharing the same theme with The Demogorgon

and The First

.
Patch 9.4.2
- Change: increased the chances of the Steagull Easter Egg scream occurring from an unknown percentage to 10%.
Trivia
- Steve was the twelfth licensed Character to be introduced to Dead by Daylight.
- Steve shares his lobby theme with The Demogorgon, The First and the rest of the Stranger Things survivors.
Likeness
- Steve's model is inspired by the likeness of Joe Keery.
However, the Developers did not receive any scans or assets from Netflix to allow them to model the in-game character after him, meaning they had to design their own lookalike-character by incorporating key attributes of the original actor, based purely on visual references.[1]- For Steve specifically, this meant his hair and the style of it.[2]
Voice Actor
- Steve Harrington was voiced by an undisclosed employee at Behavior Interactive prior to January 2026.
Voice Lines
- Alongside Steve's voice update, he retroactively received voicelines with the release of Stranger Things Chapter 2.
- This makes him the twenty-second survivor since Ash Williams, alongside being the eleventh survivor since Nicolas Cage to actively speak in the trials.
Character Meme
- Steve's voice prior to its change in January 2026 to match the voice-actor for his voice lines, was frequently made fun of by the community for the strange sounding screams.
- Furthering this, many players would pair Steve with the perk Scene Partner in order to repeatedly play his screams during the trial, with the community dubbing these type of players "Steagull".
- To compensate for the popularity of the meme, despite the voice change, there is a small chance Steve will produce a deeper edited version of his original scream as an Easter Egg added by the developers.
Skins
- All of Steve Harrington's outfits are taken from her appearances through the show.
- High School Hunk was worn by Steve while attending high school, back when he was known as the king of Hawkins High (Season 1, Episode 1).
- Default Outfit was first worn by Steve while he was hosting a party at his house with his then girlfriend Nancy and some of their friends, the night of Barb's disappearance (Season 1, Episode 2, 7 & 8).
- Red Nosed was worn by Steve in the final episode of Season 1, when he and the others were celebrating Christmas (Season 1, Episode 8).
- Last-Minute Babysitter was worn by Steve while he and Dustin Henderson were laying out bait meat to lure the juvenile Demogorgon Dart into a trap (Season 2, Episode 6).
- This-Is-Not-Happening was worn by Steve while he and several of the kids were exploring the tunnels created by the vines (Season 2, Episode 9).
- This was the first outfit to reference Dustin Henderson.
- Scoops Ahoy was worn by Steve while he was working at the ice cream parlour of the same name in Starcourt Mall alongside Robin Buckley (Season 3, Episode 1 to 8).
- Jonathan Byers is another main Character in Stranger Things, his outfit originates from Season 2, Episode 4.
- Jonathan is Will's older brother and part of the love triangle between himself, Steve and Nancy Wheeler.
