Shrine of Secrets
The Shrine of Secrets is a special Store for Unique Perks implemented in Patch 1.2.0, making it the first type of In-Game Store for Dead by Daylight.
The Shrine of Secrets resets every Tuesday at 15:00 UTC (GMT+0).
Overview
The Shrine of Secrets is not located in the In-Game Store.
It can be accessed in the Play as Killer or Play as Survivor menu by clicking its button in the left-hand-side panel.
The Shrine of Secrets has a selection of 4 randomly chosen Unique Perks that are on a weekly rotation (daily rotation during Anniversaries).
Players can use Iridescent Shards to purchase Perk Tiers from the Shrine of Secrets, allowing them to unlock Unique Perks without the need of prestiging the Perk's associated Character or even own them in the first place.
Players can also unlock higher Tiers, if they do not wish to continue prestiging the Character, or even purchase a Perk that they have already maxed out in exchange for 100,000 Bloodpoints.
This last option is not advised, as the Bloodpoints earned in the playtime it takes to regain the spent 2,000 Iridescent Shards will be far higher.
Purchasing Perks
Purchasing a Perk Tier from the Shrine of Secrets will automatically unlock it in the inventory of all Survivors or Killers.
Cost
The Shrine of Secrets uses Iridescent Shards as its currency:
Perk Tier | Default Cost | Cost if Tier I unlocked through Prestige |
Cost if Tier II unlocked through Prestige |
---|---|---|---|
Tier I | 2,000 IS | ![]() |
![]() |
Tier II | 4,000 IS | 2,000 IS | ![]() |
Tier III | 6,000 IS | 4,000 IS | 2,000 IS |
It should be noted that purchasing a Perk that is already unlocked at Tier III grants 100,000 Bloodpoints instead.
Shrine Selection
The Shrine features a selection of 4 Unique Perks (always 2 for Survivors and 2 for Killers).
The selection is the same for all Players on all Platforms and despite many claims to the contrary, completely random with only a handful of exceptions (detailed further down).
A Unique Perk that has been in the Shrine of Secrets cannot reappear for at least the next 3 Shrines.
To date, that rule was only broken once due to a bug, featuring Enduring in the Shrine of Weeks 44 and 45 in 2020.
Exceptions
Tome Challenges
If the current Shrine of Secrets coincides with the opening of a new Tome Level in the most recent Tome, and that Tome Level features Master Challenges that require the use of specific Unique Perks, then the Shrine will automatically feature those required Perks.
Special Shrines
The Developers have the ability to manipulate the Shrine of Secrets for Community-Choice Shrines, that feature Perks selected by the Community in a poll.
Outside of those events, the Shrine is completely random.

History
1st Iteration
- In use up to Patch 2.0.0
The main use of the Shrine of Secrets was to purchase Teachable Perks from Characters one either did not own or whom they had not levelled to Levels 30, 35, 40 in the Bloodweb, where the Teachable Perks spawned naturally.
Teachable Perks would cost 500 IS to purchase or 750 IS if they originated from a recently released DLC.
Purchasing Teachable Perks one already owned would instead grant 150,000 BP or 250,000 BP respectively.
2nd Iteration
- In use up to Patch 6.1.0
The main use of the Shrine of Secrets was to purchase Teachable Perks from Characters one either did not own or whom they had not levelled to Levels 30, 35, 40 in the Bloodweb, where the Teachable Perks spawned naturally.
Teachable Perks would cost 2,000 IS to purchase or 2,700 IS if they originated from a recently released DLC.
Purchasing Teachable Perks one already owned would instead grant 150,000 BP or 250,000 BP respectively.
Change Log
Patch 2.0.0
- Rework:
- Increased the average amount of Iridescent Shards
Players gain from Trials.
- Increased the cost of Teachable Perks from 550/750 IS to 2,000/2,7000 IS.
- Removed the Cap for Iridescent Shards (used to be capped at 1,000 IS).
- Increased the average amount of Iridescent Shards
Patch 6.1.0
- Rework:
- Removed Teachable Perks from the Shrine of Secrets.
- Purchasing a Perk from the Shrine of Secrets now immediately unlocks that Perk on all Survivors or Killers at the displayed Tier Level.
- Adapted the costs to depend on the purchased Perk Tier:
- Tier I: 2,000 IS
- Tier II: 4,000 IS
- Tier III: 6,000 IS
- Perk Tiers must be purchased in sequence, unless a Tier was already unlocked through the Prestige System.
- Having unlocked a Perk through the Prestige System already discounts the aforementioned prices:
- Tier I: unlocked through Prestige
- Tier II: 2,000 IS
- Tier III: 4,000 IS
- Tier II: unlocked through Prestige
- Tier III: 2,000 IS
- Tier I: unlocked through Prestige
- The same Perk may be purchased multiple times in a single Shrine rotation.
- Purchasing a Perk that is already unlocked at Tier III grants 100,000 Bloodpoints instead.
- This can only be done once per Perk per Shrine rotation.
Patch 6.7.0
- Changed the update time from Wednesday at 00:00 UTC (GMT+0) to Tuesday at 15:00 UTC (GMT+0) (9 hours sooner).
Patch 7.7.0
- Moved the Shrine from the In-Game Store to the Character Lobbies.
- This places it closer to the Load-out and the Bloodweb.
- Updated the layout to provide key information without needing to hover over the Perks.
Trivia
- For the first initial weeks of Patch 2.0.0, the Shrine of Secrets was deactivated until the Patch went live on the Console version of the game, that wasn't available until a few weeks later due to the certification process of Sony and Microsoft.
- This was because the Shrine is synchronised across all Platforms and doesn't support two different pricing systems.
- The Shrine was originally planned to go back up on 29 June 2018, but was delayed due to the certification process of the PS4 Patch having had problems and further delays.
- The Shrine went back up on 6 July 2018.
- Since the Shrine renewal of Weeks 14/15 in 2020 fell on April Fool's Day, the Developers had the game create a special April Fool's Shrine that was available for just 24 hours, containing only Calm Spirit
, the Perk that hitherto had already appeared the most often on the Shrine.
- The Shrine of Week 22 in 2022 was not random, but instead voted on by the Community as part of the preparatory-events for Dead by Daylight's Sixth Year Anniversary.
- It contained Barbecue & Chilli
, Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance
, We're Gonna Live Forever
, and Borrowed Time
.
