For the Maps known as the Trial Grounds, refer to Realms

Maps are a type of Item the Survivors can use in Dead by Daylight.

Overview

Maps are used to reveal the Auras of nearby Pallets and Windows to its user.

Furthermore, they can be used to create a marker known as a Beam of Light, which is visible and audible only to Survivors, and reveals the Auras of nearby Generators to all Survivors.

	Cryptic Map	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "Looking at it, the directions make no sense. But merely holding it grants you an uncanny intuition." Start the Trial with 4 Charges. Press the Use Item button to channel the Cryptic Map: The Auras of Pallets and Windows within 24 metres of your location are revealed to you for 10 seconds. While channelling the Map, press the Secondary Action button at any point before the timer elapses for the following additional effect: Creates a Beam of Light at your current location that lasts for 16 seconds. The Auras of Generators within 32 metres of it are revealed to all Survivors and highlighted in red. The Cryptic Map consumes -1 Charge per use.
	Scribbled Map	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "Peering at the parchment, a path appears in your mind. Moments later, you feel lost again." Start the Trial with 5 Charges. Press the Use Item button to channel the Scribbled Map: The Auras of Pallets and Windows within 32 metres of your location are revealed to you for 12 seconds. While channelling the Map, press the Secondary Action button at any point before the timer elapses for the following additional effect: Creates a Beam of Light at your current location that lasts for 16 seconds. The Auras of Generators within 32 metres of it are revealed to all Survivors and highlighted in red. The Scribbled Map consumes -1 Charge per use.
	Annotated Map	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "The sketch is clear and detailed. Strange knowledge flows into you, followed by dread uncertainty." Start the Trial with 6 Charges. Press the Use Item button to channel the Annotated Map: The Auras of Pallets and Windows within 40 metres of your location are revealed to you for 14 seconds. While channelling the Map, press the Secondary Action button at any point before the timer elapses for the following additional effect: Creates a Beam of Light at your current location that lasts for 16 seconds. The Auras of Generators within 32 metres of it are revealed to all Survivors and highlighted in red. The Annotated Map consumes -1 Charge per use.
	Bloodsense Map	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "A bloodstained piece of parchment, hastily rolled and burning with a strange power." Start the Trial with 8 Charges. Press the Use Item button to channel the Bloodsense Map: The Auras of injured Survivors, Pallets, and Windows within 48 metres of your location are revealed to you for 14 seconds. Causes Pools of Blood to spawn beneath you while being used. While channelling the Map, press the Secondary Action button at any point before the timer elapses for the following additional effect: Creates a Beam of Light at your current location that lasts for 16 seconds. The Auras of Generators within 32 metres of it are revealed to all Survivors and highlighted in red. The Bloodsense Map consumes -1 Charge per use.

	Glowing Ink	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "Some of the images seemed to jump right off the page." Modifies the Map with the following effect: Increases the duration it reveals Auras for by +2 seconds.
	Gnarled Compass	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "It seems to set itself to the perfect distance every time." Modifies the Map with the following effect: Increases its Charges by +2.
	Battered Tape	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "Additional pieces of parchment hung loosely from the map, hastily affixed with tape." Modifies the Map with the following effect: Increases its maximum range by +8 metres.
	Sharpened Flint	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "When sparked near the map, new sigils appeared in unexpected locations." Modifies the Map with the following effect: Grants the ability to track the location of Totems and reveal their Auras, when using the Map.
	Crimson Stamp	This description is based on the changes announced for or featured in the upcoming Patch 9.1.0 "Only those with absolute confidence dared to place their seal upon the map." Modifies the Map with the following effects: The Aura of the Killer is revealed to all Survivors when within 8 metres of the Beam of Light. Reduces the Life time of the Beam of Light by -10 seconds. Reduces its Charges by -2.

Change Log

Patch 3.5.0

• Quality of Life: objects revealed by Detective's Hunch are now automatically added to the Map, allowing it to reveal their Auras as well.
  This includes objects that are usually not trackable by Maps.

Patch 4.2.0

• Change: updated the model of the Item equipped by Survivors as part of the graphical update The Realm Beyond - Part One.

Patch 9.1.0

• Rework:
  • Buff: new Ability: temporarily reveals the Auras of nearby Pallets and Windows when used.
  • Buff: new Ability: pressing the Secondary Ability button now creates a Beam of Light that reveals the Auras of nearby Generators to all Survivors.
  • Quality of Life: Charges now equate to instances of using its abilities, rather than for how long it can be channelled.
• Rework: reworked all remaining Add-ons after reducing their number from 9 to 5.
  • This reduced number matches the new Add-on count introduced with the new Fog Vial Items, which limits the number of Item Add-ons to just 1 per Rarity.

Trivia

• During the time the Scribbled Map (then known as just the Map) was the only available Map, many Players in the Community joked about its icon looking like a stuffed burrito, which inspired the Developers to name the fourth Community Challenge for Survivors during the 1 Year Anniversary just that.
