The Maddening Darkness Pack is the first Chapter Pack DLC for Dead by DaylightIconHelp DBDlogo.pngIconHelp DBDlogo.pngIconHelp DBDlogo.png, released on 8 January 2024.
The Pack is included in the Gold Edition of Dead by Daylight.

This Pack is only available for purchase on the PC version, as the Characters are already included as part of the Base Game on consoles.

Description

Danger lurks in the Maddening Darkness Pack, which includes 8 playable Characters from four of Dead by Daylight's most twisted Chapters yet: Of Flesh And Mud, Spark Of Madness, Curtain Call, and Shattered Bloodline.

Delve into the depths of a dank swamp. Explore the corners of an abandoned asylum. Take shelter in the shadows of a travelling circus. Uncover the gruesome origins of a tragedy. The ultimate multiplayer horror experience awaits in this incredible Pack, featuring four original Killers and four original Survivors to bring into The Fog.


Killer: The Hag

Haunted by The Hag. The unspeakable torment Lisa Sherwood endured twisted her mind and carved in the memory of pain in her bones. She had a choice, to flee or to turn on her tormentors. Her last deed drove her into darkness.

The Hag's Power

"The source of The Hag's power: a blackened finger used as a catalyst for her terrible power.
She bends and shapes mud to her will.
With simple ritualistic drawings, she creates deceitful duplicates of herself, made from mud and decay, which she can use for various effects."


SPECIAL ABILITY: BLACKENED CATALYST
The Hag starts the Trial with 10 Phantasm Traps in her inventory.
Placing additional Phantasm Traps will recycle the oldest one.

SPECIAL TRAP: PHANTASM TRAP
Press the Power button to bend down and draw a muddy sign into the ground, placing and arming a Phantasm Trap.

Survivors entering the Area of Effect, which is only visible to The Hag, will trip the trap, causing a Mud Phantasm to spawn that has the following effects:

  • Yanks the camera of the Survivor who tripped the trap towards itself, disorienting them and keeps its sight trained on them.
  • Emits a Fake Terror RadiusIconHelp terrorRadius.pngIconHelp terrorRadius.pngIconHelp terrorRadius.png of 8 metres.

Survivors can prevent tripping the trap by doing either of the following:

  • Crouch while inside the Area of Effect.
  • Interact with Props while inside the Area of Effect.

Survivors can safely remove a trap by wiping it away for 4 seconds when crouching above it.

SPECIAL LOCOMOTION: TELEPORTAtl Hud AB IconTeleport.png
Press the Secondary Power button to teleport to any currently tripped Phantasm Trap within 48 metres, taking the place of the Mud Phantasm.
In case of multiple tripped traps, a specific Mud Phantasm can be chosen by aiming at it before teleporting.

The Hag's Perks

The false hope of Survivors ignites your hunger.

Whenever a Survivor is rescued from a HookIconHelpLoading hook.pngIconHelpLoading hook.pngIconHelpLoading hook.png while you are at least 24 metres away, Hex: Devour Hope is granted +1 Token, up to a maximum of 5 Tokens:

  • 2 Tokens: Grants a 3/4/5 % HasteIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.png Status Effect for 10 seconds after 10 seconds of having hooked a Survivor.
  • 3 Tokens: Causes all Survivors to suffer from a permanent ExposedIconStatusEffects exposed.pngIconStatusEffects exposed.pngIconStatusEffects exposed.png Status Effect.
  • 5 Tokens: Grants the ability to kill all Survivors by your own hand.

Hex: Ruin A Hex that affects the Generator Repair progress of all Survivors.
  • Whenever a GeneratorIconHelpLoading generators.pngIconHelpLoading generators.pngIconHelpLoading generators.png is not being repaired by a Survivor, it will immediately and automatically regress its Repair progress at 50/75/100 % of the normal Regression speed.

All effects of the Hex Perk persist until its Hex TotemIconStatusEffects cursed.pngIconStatusEffects cursed.pngIconStatusEffects cursed.png is cleansed or blessed.

Killer: The Doctor

Carter had good intentions, at first. He set out to understand the human psyche. But wars and secrecy disrupted his good intentions, and instead Carter started to experiment with more and more unwilling test subjects that either entered, or were brought to him. Instead of understanding, he sought means of controlling. By any means necessary. Sometimes words and texts are as useful as bone saws and electricity.

The Doctor's Power

The Entity has ignited a corrupted and inexhaustible spark in The Doctor's heart which allows him to generate electroconvulsive power at will.
His insidious treatment corrupts the minds of those it touches.
Victims shocked by the corrupt spark begin to lose their grip on reality and, with repeated exposure, inevitably succumb to madness."


SPECIAL ABILITY: CARTER'S SPARK
Striking Survivors with his electro-convulsive abilities, The Doctor causes them to suffer from the tiered MadnessIconStatusEffects madness.pngIconStatusEffects madness.pngIconStatusEffects madness.png Status Effect.

SPECIAL AFFLICTION: MADNESS
Madness causes increasingly potent afflictions in the affected Survivors, depending on its current tier.

Once Madness is obtained, Survivors are unable to lose it and may only reset it to Tier I by performing the Snap Out of It interaction.

Madness I has the following permanent effects until a tier-up:


Madness II has the following permanent effects until a tier-up:

  • Causes Survivors to scream and reveal their location during the tier-up.
  • Skill Checks have a chance of 66 % to be Madness Skill Checks.
  • Causes Survivors to experience occasional Hallucinations in the form of Illusionary Doctors.


Madness III has the following permanent effects until Survivors Snap Out of It:

  • Causes Survivors to scream and reveal their location during the tier-up and continue doing so intermittently every few seconds.
  • Skill Checks are 100 % Madness Skill Checks.
  • Causes Survivors to experience occasional Hallucinations in the form of Illusionary Doctors.
    • The AurasIconHelp auras.pngIconHelp auras.pngIconHelp auras.png of Illusionary Doctors are revealed to The Doctor.
  • Suppresses the ability to use any equipped ItemIconHelp items.pngIconHelp items.pngIconHelp items.png.
  • Suppresses the ability to perform, or have performed on themselves, any interaction with a Progress bar.
    • Unhooking other Survivors is exempt from this restriction.


SPECIAL INTERACTION: SNAP OUT OF IT
Survivors having reached Madness III can perform the Snap Out of It interaction for 12 seconds:

  • Triggers Madness Skill Checks at each quadrant of the Progress bar.
  • Succeeding them continues the interaction.
  • Failing them has the following repercussions:
    • Interrupts the action and resets its Progress to the previous quadrant.
    • Causes the Survivor to scream and reveal their location.
  • Completing the interaction resets Madness to Tier I.


SPECIAL ABILITY: SHOCK THERAPYAtl Hud AB IconShockTherapy.png
Press and hold the Power button to perform a Shock Therapy Attack, unleashing a cone-shaped ranged shock attack on the ground in front of The Doctor:

  • Reduces his Movement speed to 3.08 m/s while charging.
  • Shock Therapy has a range of 12 metres and detonates with a delay of 0.8 seconds.

Survivors struck with a Shock Therapy Attack suffer from the following effects:

  • Increases their Madness by +0.5 Tiers.
  • Causes them to scream, interrupting any on-going interactions at the moment of impact.
  • Suppresses their ability to perform any further interactions, including with PalletsIconHelp pullDown.pngIconHelp pullDown.pngIconHelp pullDown.png and WindowsIconHelp window.pngIconHelp window.pngIconHelp window.png for 2.5 seconds.

Survivors suffering from the ObliviousIconStatusEffects oblivious.pngIconStatusEffects oblivious.pngIconStatusEffects oblivious.png Status Effect when struck by Shock Therapy have it removed immediately.

SPECIAL ABILITY: STATIC BLAST
Press and hold the Secondary Power button, once the Power Gauge is full, to perform a Static Blast Attack, unleashing a ranged shock attack that propagates outwards from The Doctor:

  • Reduces his Movement speed to 2.99 m/s while charging.
  • Static Blast passes through any obstacles and covers his entire Terror RadiusIconHelp terrorRadius.pngIconHelp terrorRadius.pngIconHelp terrorRadius.png.

Survivors struck with a Static Blast Attack suffer from the following effects:

  • Increases their Madness by +1 Tier.
  • Causes them to scream, interrupting any on-going interactions at the moment of impact.

Survivors can prevent being struck by Static Blast by hiding inside a LockerIconHelp lockers.pngIconHelp lockers.pngIconHelp lockers.png.
Survivors suffering from the ObliviousIconStatusEffects oblivious.pngIconStatusEffects oblivious.pngIconStatusEffects oblivious.png Status Effect when struck by Static Blast have it removed immediately.

Static Blast has a variable cool-down:

  • 30 seconds while no Survivors are in its range.
  • 45 seconds while at least one Survivor is in its range.

Whenever you are not in a Chase with a Survivor, the following effect applies:

  • Reduces your Terror Radius by 12/14/16 metres.

    • Failing that Skill Check instantly regresses the Generator by 2/3/4 % of its maximum possible Progression in addition to the default Progression penalty.
After Overcharge is applied to a Generator, the following effect also applies:
  • Increases the Regression speed from 85 % to 130 % of its default value over the next 30 seconds.

Killer: The Clown

The Clown has long used his nomadic lifestyle as a cover for his twisted pastimes. He distanced himself from a society that hated and feared him, living as a parasite, enticing those who strayed too near, anesthetising and trapping them like butterflies. Beware, if you feel your senses dulling and your head getting light, RUN!

The Clown's Power

"Throughout his years experimenting with anaesthetics and muscle relaxants, The Clown developed several effective concoctions and formulas.
His favourite, The Afterpiece Tonic, he has used to great effect, intoxicating and capturing many unwilling victims.
The associated Afterpiece Antidote also has useful effects."


SPECIAL ABILITY: THE AFTERPIECE TONIC AND ANTIDOTE
The Clown starts the Trial with a shared stock of 6 Bottles.

Press the Secondary Power button to switch between the Tonic and the Antidote.

Press the Power button to throw a Bottle.
Hold the Power button until a shimmer travels across the Bottle to throw it with maximum strength.

Press and hold the Secondary Power button to replenish the Bottles at any time:

  • Reloading takes 3 seconds to complete.
  • Reduces his Movement speed to 1.61 m/s.


SPECIAL AFFLICTION: TONIC
Upon impact, the Tonic Bottle breaks, releasing a purple Gas Cloud that intoxicates Survivors upon contact and while inside it.
The Clown is immune to its effects.

Intoxicated Survivors suffer from the following effects while inside the Gas Cloud:

  • Causes impaired vision.
  • Causes involuntary coughing.
  • Suppresses the ability to perform Fast Vaults.
  • Reduces all Movement speeds through a -15 % HinderedIconStatusEffects hindered.pngIconStatusEffects hindered.pngIconStatusEffects hindered.png Status Effect.

These effects linger for 2 seconds after leaving the Gas Cloud.

SPECIAL BENEFIT: ANTIDOTE
Upon impact, the Antidote Bottle breaks, releasing an inactive white Gas Cloud.
The Gas Cloud will turn yellow after 2 seconds and invigorate all Players upon contact.

Invigorated Players benefit from the following effect:

  • Increases all Movement speeds through a +10 % HasteIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.png Status Effect for 6 seconds.


SPECIAL INTERACTION: NEUTRALISATION
The two types of Gas Clouds instantly neutralise each other upon contact.

Walking from one type into the other one will also neutralise any lingering effects from the former and instead apply the effect(s) of the latter.

The Clown's Perks

  • Reduces their Healing speed by 30/40/50 %.
  • Increases the Rotation speed of Healing Skill ChecksIconHelp skillChecks.pngIconHelp skillChecks.pngIconHelp skillChecks.png by +50 %.

Pop Goes the Weasel A deep bond with The Entity unlocks great strength.

After hooking a Survivor, Pop Goes the Weasel activates for 35/40/45 seconds.
Perform the Damage Generator action while Pop Goes the Weasel is active to benefit from the following effect:

  • Instantly regresses the damaged GeneratorIconHelpLoading generators.pngIconHelpLoading generators.pngIconHelpLoading generators.png by -20 % of its current Progression.
Pop Goes the Weasel deactivates after the Generator is damaged or once the timer runs out.


Killer: The Spirit

The Spirit's Info

She inherited incredible fury from her ancestors. The wrath that flows through her veins is her legacy. The terrible pain she suffered set it off. Swift and lethal, The Spirit exacts her revenge endlessly. The Spirit is a phase-walking Killer able to catch Survivors off-guard with her traversal power, Yamaoka’s Haunting. Killer Power - The Spirit: Yamaoka’s Haunting

Yamaoka is the name she carries from her ancestors, who unleashed hell on the battlefield. The Spirit draws her power from their wrath, haunting the living as retribution for her suffering. The Spirit can use her power, Yamaoka's Haunting, to enter an ethereal plane and phase-walk to a new location, unseen by human eyes.

The Spirit's Power

SPECIAL ABILITY: YAMAOKA'S HAUNTING
Press and hold the Power button to charge Yamaoka's Haunting and initiate a Phase-Walk for up to 5 seconds:

  • Causes The Spirit to depart her physical body and enter the Ethereal Plane, leaving behind a stationary Husk.

Yamaoka's Haunting has a cool-down of 15 seconds.

SPECIAL LOCOMOTION: PHASE-WALK
During a Phase-Walk, The Spirit experiences the following effects:

  • Increases her Movement speed to 7.04 m/s.
  • Survivors are invisible to her.
  • The Spirit emits a directional sound cue audible to all Survivors within 24 metres.
  • The Husk emits a Terror RadiusIconHelp terrorRadius.pngIconHelp terrorRadius.pngIconHelp terrorRadius.png of 24 metres.

The Spirit retains her speed boost for 1 second after ending a Phase-Walk.

SPECIAL ABILITY: PASSIVE-PHASING
The Spirit is constantly phasing in and out of view for Survivors whenever she is not currently in a Phase-Walk.

  • The Obsession suffers from the ExposedIconStatusEffects exposed.png Status Effect.
  • Grants the ability to kill the Obsessions by your own hand.

You can only be obsessed with one Survivor at a time.

Spirit Fury Each obstacle you break magnifies the wrath of The Entity.

After manually breaking a dropped PalletIconHelp pullDown.pngIconHelp pullDown.pngIconHelp pullDown.png by any means for a total of 4/3/2 times, Spirit Fury activates:

  • Causes The EntityIconHelp entity.pngIconHelp entity.pngIconHelp entity.png to instantly break the next Pallet used to stun you.
    • The normal Stun penalty applies afterwards, unless it is mitigated by other effects.
Spirit Fury deactivates after use.

From his roots as a poor boy in Argentina, he gamed, scammed, seduced and smooth-talked his way to a life of luxury as a high roller in the land of opportunity. Money has always had a way of slipping through his fingers, but Ace simply figures he can always win more. Eventually he racked up too many debts with the wrong kind of people. But when they finally came to collect, Ace was nowhere to be found. No one knows where he has gone, but everyone agrees on one thing: He will survive… against all odds.

  • Increases the radius of all Aura-reading abilities emanating from yourself or other Survivors by 8/12/16 metres.

Your confidence strengthens the feeling of hope for those around you.

For every Survivor still in the Trial, Up the Ante is granted +1 Token:

  • Increases the Odds of every Survivor succeeding a Self-Unhook attempt by a stack-able 1/2/3 % per Token, up to a maximum of 3/6/9 %.

The inspiring teacher. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Adam is a resourceful teacher whose expectations of himself and others are higher than most. He is a driven autodidact who always strives to improve himself. Finding opportunity miles away from his island, he built a new home from scratch. In Japan, he was seen as a hard teacher with a good heart. While he was tough during class, he held study sessions every day after school and spent hours answering any student’s questions. His kind nature allows him to adapt easily and resolve difficult situations. Adam’s personal perks help him to distract The Killer, survive desperate situations, and become more skilled as the trial continues.

  • On 12 September 2024, the Developers permanently reduced the price of the individual Characters of this DLC in both in-game currencies by -50 % (125 Auric CellsIconCurrency auricCells.pngIconCurrency auricCells.pngIconCurrency auricCells.png or 2,250 Iridescent ShardsIconCurrency iridescentShards.pngIconCurrency iridescentShards.pngIconCurrency iridescentShards.png).
    • Accordingly, they also adjusted the DLCs price itself from $19.99 to $9.99.
    • With this reduction, these oldest original DLC Characters of Dead by Daylight now cost just a quarter compared to their original price from before the introduction of the Maddening Darkness Pack on 8 January 2024.
