Event Mechanics

Void Energy

The ultimate goal of the Event Mechanics is for Killers and Survivor to collect Void Energy.

Void Energy can be gained in four different ways:

  • Repairing an Esoteric Generator:
    • Repairing awards 3 Void Energy every 8 seconds.
    • A maximum of 90 Void Energy can be obtained from repairing Generators.
  • Hooking a Survivor on an Esoteric Hook:
    • Hooking awards 6 Void Energy per Hook.
    • A maximum of 18 Void Energy from hooking Survivors.
  • Destroying a PumpkinIconHelp pumpkin.pngIconHelp pumpkin.pngIconHelp pumpkin.png:
    • Destroying a Treat Pumpkin awards 3 Void Energy
    • Destroying a Neutral Pumpkin awards 6 Void Energy
    • Destroying a Trick Pumpkin awards 9 Void Energy
  • Collecting a floating Void Orb; these spawn randomly in the environment and award 3 Void Energy

Void Energy can be transferred between the Survivor and the Killer in two different ways:

  • Stunning the Killer:
    • Stunning transfers 3 Void Energy from the Killer to the Survivor that stunned them.
  • Downing Survivors:
    • Downing transfers 3 Void Energy to the Killer from the Survivor they downed.

Unstable Rifts

An Unstable Rift

Players can hold a maximum of 60 Void Energy at a time, after which they will no longer gain any additional Void Energy and see the Aura of a nearby Unstable Rift.
At this point, Players are encouraged to bank their Void Energy at an Unstable Rift, after which they can once again gain new Void Energy from the aforementioned interactions.

Players depositing their Void Energy into Unstable Rifts are rewarded with a +5 HasteIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.png Status Effect for 15 seconds.

This process is repeatable until a maximum of 30 Void Energy is banked into Unstable Rifts.

As a Killer, when the Trial ends, any Void Energy not yet deposited into an Unstable Rift will automatically be accounted for and deposited into the Sky Rift.

As a Survivor, the same will be true upon escaping the Trial.
If a Survivor dies, however, that energy will be lost.

Sky Rift

Each Map features a so-called "Sky Rift", a large Rift Portal up in the sky of the Map, akin to the one shown in the main Lobby during the Event, only a lot smaller.
The Sky Rift is purely decorative in nature and has no other effect than to, lore-wise, collect any remaining Void Energy Players are holding in their inventory and have not managed to deposit into Unstable Rifts before escaping the Trial (Survivor) or ending it (Killer).

Opening the Void

An active Void Portal

Haunted by Daylight 2023 features a new objective for both Survivors and Killers.

Interacting with Unstable Rifts and depositing Void Energy into them will eventually cause all of them to stabilise, opening a pathway into the Void itself.
Players can then enter the Void with a short interaction.

Survivors in the Void

Survivors, while in the Void, suffer from a permanent ExhaustionIconStatusEffects exhausted.pngIconStatusEffects exhausted.pngIconStatusEffects exhausted.png Status Effect and, if injured, also from the BrokenIconStatusEffects broken.pngIconStatusEffects broken.pngIconStatusEffects broken.png Status Effect.
If they are hooked in the Void at any point, they are teleported to another Hook outside the Void.

Survivors cannot carry any Limited Item into the Void.

The Void only remains open for a limited time.

Killers in the Void

Killers, while in the Void, benefit from a permanent UndetectableIconStatusEffects undetectable.pngIconStatusEffects undetectable.pngIconStatusEffects undetectable.png Status Effect, but lose access to their Power, including Mini-Mori abilities.

Releasing Haunts

Releasing a Haunt
A released Haunt

As the Void only remains open for a limited time, it is advised to release the Haunts whenever possible for a bit of help in the Trials.

When inside the Void, Players can transfer their Void Energy into a Haunt by approaching it.
Once a Haunt has fully leeched enough Void Energy to escape (12 Void Energy), they are released from the Void.

Survivor Haunts

Haunts released by a Survivor benefit them with a set of buffs for the next 30 seconds, which can be carried over to the Overworld:

  • Grants a +10 % HasteIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.png Status Effect.
  • Grants the EnduranceIconStatusEffects enduranceSurvivor.pngIconStatusEffects enduranceSurvivor.pngIconStatusEffects enduranceSurvivor.png Status Effect.
  • Increases the Action speeds for Blessing, Cleansing, Healing and Unlocking by +20 %.

Additionally, there is an instantaneous effect in the Void:

  • Held Items are recharged to 50 %.

Once outside of the Void, the allied Haunt, with its Aura revealed to all Survivors, awaits temporarily to aid any approaching Survivor one more time with an effect of that Player's choosing:

  • Approach the Haunt and stay close to it for 2 seconds, after which it grants a +15 % HasteIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.png Status Effect for the next 3 seconds.
  • Lure the Killer into the Haunt mid-chase for a scare, which stuns the Killer for 5 seconds.

Killer Haunts

Haunts released by the Killer benefit them with a set of buffs for the next 30 seconds, which can be carried over to the Overworld:

  • Grants a +10 % HasteIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.png Status Effect.
  • Grants the UndetectableIconStatusEffects undetectable.pngIconStatusEffects undetectable.pngIconStatusEffects undetectable.png Status Effect.
  • Increases the Action speeds for Breaking, Damaging, and Snuffing by +20 %.
  • Reduces the Cool-down duration for missed Basic Attacks by -20 %.

Once outside of the Void, the allied Haunt, with its Aura revealed to you, awaits temporarily to aid you one more time, with a benefit of your choosing:

  • Approach the Haunt and stay close to it for 3 seconds, after which it grants a +15 % HasteIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.pngIconStatusEffects haste.png Status Effect for the next 3 seconds.
  • Lure a Survivor into the Haunt mid-chase for a scare, which afflicts them with a -15 % HinderedIconStatusEffects hindered.pngIconStatusEffects hindered.pngIconStatusEffects hindered.png Status Effect for 3 seconds.

Contesting Haunts

Contesting a Haunt

When approaching a Haunt that was not fully released by the opposing team, it can be contested, slowly draining its release meter until it is empty, at which point the regular release process will start.
