The Dark Mist fogging up the Trial grounds

The Dark Mist, also known and referred to as "The Black Fog" or just "The Fog" is a recurring feature in every Trial of Dead by Daylight, which, however, has been toned down severely with the graphical reworks of Maps as part of The Realm Beyond.

Overview

The Dark Mist featured throughout the Trial Grounds appeared to be a lesser variant of the Black Fog surrounding the Realm pockets and was one of The Entity's many manifestations.

For the Players, The Fog added a sense of uncertainty to other Players' location and their surroundings, making it ideal for Survivors to attempt to hide in plain sight and escape the Killer, but also making it ideal for stealth Killers to approach unsuspecting prey.

It was a very ambivalent feature of the Game in its first few years after release.

Thickness

The thickness of the Dark Mist can be altered with the Reagent Offerings.

	Faint Reagent	Calls upon The Entity for the following effect: Increases the thickness of the Dark Mist by +25 %. "Paralysed, I stand in the cold as death lingers."
	Hazy Reagent	Calls upon The Entity for the following effect: Increases the thickness of the Dark Mist by +50 %. "The Mist is alluring, hypnotising. I love it and fear it at the same time." — Donna's Sketchbook
	Murky Reagent	Calls upon The Entity for the following effect: Increases the thickness of the Dark Mist by +75 %. "The Mist seems to protect us from the beast, but it is a poison, a cancer, filling us with darkness and insanity." — Unknown, Notebook

Stacking Conditions

The Reagent Offerings can be combined freely as they all stack amongst themselves, with the table below listing some possible combinations and their resulting thickness.

It should be noted, however, that the Reagent Offerings, akin to the retired Moonlight ones, are capped at the lower (Clear Reagent) and upper (Murky Reagent) extremes and cannot stack beyond that.

Vials

For each of the Reagent Offerings, there exists an unused Vial equivalent of the same name.
It is unknown if the Vials, if implemented, would have the same or different effects as their corresponding Reagents or if the icons were intended to replace the Reagent ones at some point:
