Cages
Cages are Props featured in Dead by Daylight![]()
![]()
since their introduction in Patch 4.0.0 alongside the release of CHAPTER 16: Silent Hill.
Overview
Cages come in 2 varieties:
- Cages of Atonement
- Cages of Corruption
The former are an optional way for The Executioner to progress the Sacrifice Process and requires that a downed Survivor is suffering from Torment.
The latter fully replace Hooks in Trials of the 2v8 Game Mode.
Behaviour
Cages work similarly to Hooks, but with some key differences:
Spawning
Cages generally spawn as far away from the Killer(s) as possible and will relocate if the Killer walks over and remains too close for an extended period of time.
Cages of Atonement
Cages of Atonement only appear in Trials against The Executioner
They progress a Survivor's Hook Stages as a regular Hook would and The Executioner can choose whether or not to use it.
Downed Survivors suffering from Torment can either be picked up and carried to a Hook![]()

as usual or alternatively be sent directly to a Cage of Atonement.
Cages of Corruption
Cages of Corruption only appear in Trials of the 2v8 Game Mode and have a reduced Sacrifice timer of 120 seconds (60 seconds per Cage State).
Since they replace Hooks entirely, they progress a Survivor's Cage States instead, which, for all intents and purposes, work the same as Hook Stages, and even count towards Safe Unhook challenges.
The colour of the individual Cage States (from the Killer POV) indicate which Killer sent a Survivor to a Cage of Corruption: red (you) or orange (the other Killer).
Killers in this mode are forced to use Cages of Corruption and thus cannot carry Survivors around.
Downed Survivors must be sent to a Cage of Corruption.
If a Survivor lands on a Killer's shoulder by any means (i.e. when grabbed), the Killer will automatically and immediately drop them to the ground.
