History
The bow and shank of a key, vibrating with power.
Start the Trial with 6 Charges.
Press and hold the Use Item button to channel the Broken Key:
- The Auras of other Survivors within 48 metres of your location are revealed to you for 8 seconds.
The
Broken Key consumes
-1 Charge per use of its ability.
This Patch also updated the introductory flavour text.

The power of the Broken Key cannot be triggered by itself.
Various objects must be attached to its jump ring in the form of Add-ons in order to channel its power.
Press and hold the Use Item button to trigger the Mind Channel ability:
- Unlocks its Aura-reading ability for up to 10 seconds.
- The revealed Auras depend on the attached Add-ons.
The
Broken Key cannot be used to open a closed
Hatch.
Change Log
- Rework:
- Buff: new Ability: temporarily reveals the Auras of other nearby Survivors when used.
- Quality of Life: Charges now equate to instances of using its abilities, rather than for how long it can be channelled.
- Change: lowered the Rarity from Rare to Common.
Trivia
- The Broken Key was added to Dead by Daylight in Patch 1.1.2 alongside several other new Unlockables.
- Until the Rework to Keys in Patch 9.1.0, it was the only Item in Dead by Daylight without any inherent abilities, making the use of Add-ons absolutely essential.
